What is Educational Technology?
Educational Technology enables educators and professionals to effectively apply current and emerging technologies in educational settings. Technologists have applied skills and knowledge in: computing hardware and software; internet-based resources; application of personal productivity computing resources in education; instructional design theory (principles and processes); design, development, and evaluation of educational technology tools and materials; and multimedia design and development.
Often Educational Technologists work in specific areas that emphasize skills and knowledge in a particular aspect of educational technology that can include, but is not limited to: instructional design, designing online courses, studies in equality of educational opportunity, multimedia production, computing applications in education, internet resources for educators, strategies for technology integration, and educational technology for administrators.
Educational Technologists foster innovation. They develop sustainable distance education programs, collaborating with school administrators, faculty, and students. A successful technologist will use technology to promote accessible education for all types of student learners.
